The aims are that the pupil shall be able to:
- Explain the main characteristics of the development of English from an Anglo-Saxon language to an international world language
- Read and write formal and informal texts in various genres and with different purposes
- Extract essential information from spoken and written texts
- Present and discuss international news and current events
- Take initiatives to start, finish and keep a conversation going
- discuss similarities and differences between English and other foreign languages and use this knowledge when learning English
- use the forms and structures of the language in spoken and written presentations
- express himself/herself in writing and orally with subtleness, proper register, fluency, precision and coherence
- Get to know the textbook and the competence aims in the curriculum
- To contribute in creating a good class environment and a good learning environment
- To know who the Angles and the Saxons were, and why they were so important to the English language
- To place the periods “Old English”, “Middle English”, Early Modern English” and “Modern English” in history, and to briefly explain what characterizes them
- To make notes while listening to or reading a text
- To write a summary using your own words and a clear language
- To know what a narrative text is and to be able to tell a narrative and an argumentative text apart
- To theoretically master the use of simple present tense (verb)
- To show progress in using and inflecting the simple present tense (verb)
- To theoretically master the use of the progressive aspect (verb)
- To show progress in using the progressive aspect (verb)
- To learn and show progress when it comes to using the correct prepositions
